What I want to do in the future
Like flowers that bloom in unexpected places, every story unfolds with beauty and resilience, revealing hidden wonders.
Fashion Magazine Designer
I was always fascinated by my mother’s stack of fashion magazines that she would sometimes read during her free time. When I was a teenager, I used to collect magazines like Teen Vogue and Seventeen. I loved the articles that were written, the beautiful models, and the clothing that they would wear. Unfortunately, I was unable to recreate anything out of those magazines because I had no money at the time, and I went to a private school where uniforms were mandatory. When I learned that graphic designers helped make fashion magazines, I was super excited. I can only imagine how many famous people I would meet, the places and gatherings I would go to, and how my work would influence aspiring graphic designers and magazine designers alike.

Theatre Poster Designer
I have always had a special place in my heart for the world of theatre. I loved to watch how a group of people can live a million different lives on stage. I also loved how the props, lighting, and other visual aspects intertwine with the acting, dancing, and musical numbers. I have been active in the theatre in high school, and I am returning to it as a fun hobby.
One thing that I am starting to appreciate as a graphic designer is how each poster for each theatrical production is crafted and gives viewers a glimpse of what to expect.
One of my favorite examples is for my favorite musical, West Side Story. The red background and the bold and loud typography give viewers a summary into the plot: a very intense mixture of resentful and passionate emotions that would clash in a tragic outcome.
The poster for Hamilton includes a color palette of gold and black as well as a star as the primary design shape. This gives viewers an insight of the main character being ambitious and aspiring. This design could also hint to the historical references that the musical provides: the gold being the paper aged paper and the black being the ink being written into the parchment; this could resemble The Constitution, telling viewers the information that this musical takes place during the early days of America.

What I can do to help build these goals:
Publication Design
In the fall of 2025, I registered for a Publication Design class, which is a requirement for the GID degree at the Mount. One project that is within the syllabus is a magazine cover project. This is a great opportunity to dip my toes into the world of magazine publishing and how to use covers as powerful messages.
Trips to magazine stands
Whenever I go to Barnes and Noble, I can also get a sneak peek at any of their magazines that scream at me for cover and publishing inspiration. I could also go to the local supermarket to see if there are any magazines that are available to purchase and read.
Studying Broadway posters
One certain graduation present that I want to save up for is to go to Broadway in Manhattan, New York City. Because of this, I am going to spend some of my free time before May studying certain posters for my favorite theatrical productions and maybe create some of my own.
Collecting playbills and other production booklets
Another great opportunity for graphic designers who are passionate about theatre is to build the playbills and production booklets that attendees grab when they pay to see the show. I am looking forward to collecting them and possibly building some of my own during my free time.
